Day 1: Tue Sept 21, 2021 - Departure from the USA on your overnight flight to Russia
Day 2: Wed Sept 22, 2021 - St Petersburg! Upon arrival, proceed through customs and collect your luggage. A Jet Vacations professional guide will personally greet you. Departure and transfer by deluxe coach to your hotel located in St Petersburg city center. After checking into your hotel, enjoy some free time to adjust. In the evening, gather for the warm-up meeting with your guide transfer by coach to a local typical restaurant for your welcome dinner. Afterwards, transfer by coach to board your St Petersburg Canal Cruise. On arrival, step aboard your comfortable private canal boat with your guide, and enjoy your first glimpses of St. Petersburg from the water as you set sail. Built on 42 islands, this beautiful city is crisscrossed with rivers and man-made canals that mark out its different neighborhoods, and give it its nickname of the ‘Venice of the North’. Enjoy the cityscapes as dusk falls, navigating along the Neva to the Fontanka and Moika Rivers, and the Kryukov Canal. Soak in panoramas of Vasilyevsky Island and the Peter and Paul Fortress, and glide by landmarks such as St. Nicholas Cathedral, St. Michael’s Castle (Mikhailovsky Castle), and more. Admire the Mariinsky Palace and St. Isaac’s Cathedral, and have your camera ready as you sail under some of the city’s most beautiful bridges. Hear fascinating facts and stories about the sights from your guide, who will provide interesting live commentary as you sail. Upon completion of your cruise, return to your hotel for overnight in St Petersburg (D)
Day 3: Thu Sept 23, 2021 - St. Petersburg - City Tour / Hermitage Museum / Catherine the Great’s Palace. Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, enter the renowned Hermitage Museum, home to one of the most important collections of European art in the world. Then set out on a walking tour of Split of Basil Island. Make a photo stop at the Spilled Blood Church and then inside visit of St. Isaac Cathedral. 3 course Lunch included in a local restaurant en-route. Drive along the Nevsky Prospect, the main avenue where fine shops, cafes, and museums are found. Following lunch, travel to Catherine the Great’s Palace, which houses the extraordinary Amber Room, its six tons of solid amber deftly carved and framed in gold leaf. Once deemed the “eighth wonder of the world,” the room was stripped by the Nazis in 1941, but majestically reconstructed in honor of St. Petersburg’s 300th birthday. Overnight in St Petersburg. Day 4: Fri Sept 24, 2021 - St. Petersburg at leisure - Optional Peterhof Grand Palace, Park and Bath Cottage and Yusupov Palace including Rasputin chambers. After breakfast at the hotel, spend the day at leisure to visit St. Petersburg on your own, or join an optional full day tour of Peterhof and Yusopov Palaces. Peterhof is St. Petersburg’s most famous and spectacular Imperial estates, often cited as the Versailles of Russia. Visit the authentic Bath Cottage and stroll in the vast Lower Park with 176 fountains of various forms and styles and four cascades, majestic palaces and numerous gilded statues of ancient gods and heroes. A 3-course lunch is included during the optional tour. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Yusupov Palace including Rasputin Chambers. Evening is free. Overnight in St Petersburg. (B)
Day 5: Sat Sept 25, 2021 - St. Petersburg – Peter & Paul fortress – Fabergé museum – Embarkation day. Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. This morning, enjoy a city tour of St. Petersburg, including Peter and Paul Fortress, burial place of the Romanov monarchs. After lunch at Podvorie, a restaurant located in a traditional Russian log house, your city tour continues with a visit of the Fabergé Museum. Then later on in the afternoon, transfer to your ship. Upon arrival onboard, enjoy a welcome cocktail and settle into your Stateroom. Later-on in the evening, enjoy a special bread, salt & vodka “welcome aboard” ceremony. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Sun Sept 26, 2021 – Svir River and Svirstroy. Breakfast on board while cruising along the 139-mile-long Svir River. Appreciate the quiet understated beauty of a region that has long inspired artists and poets. The ship passes quaint riverside hamlets before reaching Lake Ladoga, Europe's largest freshwater lake, past a shoreline dotted with graceful willows, alder trees and stately pines. The highlight of your day in Svirstroy is being invited into a local resident’s home. Warm and welcoming Svirstroy villagers will offer tea with jam and “pirozhkie” (local pies). They will enthusiastically tell you all about Russian tradition, lifestyle and the attractions of Svirstroy village while proudly showing off their homes and kitchen gardens. After tea hop on a bus for a tour of the nearby town to see the monument of the WWII and visit a local primary school. Later on, enjoy a Barbeque on the Open Deck (weather permitting). Meals: B, L, D
Day 7: Mon Sept 27, 2021 - Kizhi. The enormous Karelia region is a vast and naturally beautiful wilderness that spreads all the way from St. Petersburg to the Arctic Circle. Discover Lake Onega and the glorious island village of Kizhi featuring a collection of ancient wooden houses and windmills consisting almost entirely of the traditionally styled wooden buildings of ‘Old Russia’. Among them is the famous Transfiguration Church, a relatively new addition built in 1714. Remarkably, and in testament to the craftsmen of the time, not a single nail was used in its construction! Tonight, enjoy a piano concert featuring pieces by Tchaikovsky and Rakhmaninov. (B, L, D)
Day 8: Tue Sept 28, 2021 - Goritsy. Today we cross Lake Beloye, or the White Lake, formerly known as the “tsar’s fishing grounds”. After lunch we arrive in the peaceful village of Goritsy which lies in a place so serene that ancient monks chose to build no fewer than three holy sites here, including the Ferapontov Monastery. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, its chapels boast magnificent frescoes by Dionysius, one of Russia’s most renowned icon painters. The Kirillo-Belozersky was founded in 1397 to bring devotees ‘closer to God’. During tumultuous times, it was a refuge for many nobles and later a fortress that successfully repelled invading armies. In modern times though, Goritsy is much more welcoming! Return to the ship after guided tour. Tonight, feast on a typical Russian dinner with vodka tasting (B, L, D)
Day 9: Wed Sept 29, 2021 - Yaroslavl. Founded in 1010, Yaroslavl, the oldest city on the Volga River, and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasts a wealth of ancient orthodox treasures. The impressive Transfiguration of the Savior, adorned with murals depicting St. John’s apocalyptic visions can be seen in the Spassky Monastery. The Church of St. Elijah the Prophet is decorated with an awe-inspiring selection of rich frescoes. For a real taste of pre-revolutionary Russia, visitors are entertained by a costumed reception at the Governor’s House. Re-board the MS Volga Dream in time for lunch. Later on-board, participate in a costumed Russian tea ceremony and sharpen your skills in a Russian cooking class (B, L, D)
Day 10: Thu Sept 30, 2021 - Uglich. After a full day of cruising through forested countryside, dock in the ancient trading town of Uglich. The famous ‘Golden Ring’ is an archipelago of important and historic towns surrounding Moscow. Among them is one of the country’s oldest, which was founded under Igor, the last Varangian prince. Uglich once resisted the Mongol invasion and its ancient walls saw the grisly murder of young Dmitri, son of Ivan the Terrible. The impressive Church of St. Dmitri on the Blood, which now stands where he died with its classic onion domes and blood red walls, is a fine example of classic Russian architecture. The Uglich tour ends with an enchanting choral concert in St. John’s Church. Today will also showcase a special documentary/ film called: “The Construction of the Moscow Canal”. (B, L, D)
Day 11: Fri Oct 1, 2021 - Disembarkation day - Moscow City tour / Novodevichi Cemetery / Metro Ride. This afternoon, arrive in Moscow and disembark the MS Volga Dream. Proceed with an orientation city tour of Moscow. Glorious Moscow is one of the great world cities that really must be seen. It is home to wide, clean boulevards and streets, spectacular municipal parks and boasts an enviable offering of world-class concerts, theater and entertainment. Moscow is a city of contrasts, history and modernity, tradition and technology, classic and contemporary, all qualities that are readily apparent from the shortest of strolls through the center. A vibrant, creative, yet historic, modern city, Moscow has always been an artistic, political and economic powerhouse. Visit the Red Square, St. Basil's Cathedral and photo stops at the GUM Department Store and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, as well as the famous Novodevichi Cemetery which holds the tombs of renowned Russian authors, musicians, playwrights, poets, famous actors, political leaders, and scientists. Later on, check-in at your hotel in Moscow. Rest of the day is at leisure and on your own. Tonight, seek out an optional cultural performance at one of the city’s renowned venues (Optional Bolshoi Ballet Theatre performance including coach & guide) (B)
Day 12: Sat Oct 2, 2021 - Moscow - Kremlin / Armory Museum – Metro – Tolstoy’s house. This morning after breakfast at the hotel, enter the Kremlin for a visit to the Armory Museum to view its collection of opulent coronation finery, hand-forged armors and weapons, royal carriages and sleighs, and dazzling Fabergé eggs. Continue to the beautifully frescoed 15th-century Assumption and Archangel cathedrals. Continue on to explore Moscow’s Metro, known for its architectural splendor. Visit Tolstoy’s house. The balance of the day is at leisure to get lunch on your own and for independent exploration of the capital city. In the evening, join your group fellow members for a Farewell dinner. Day 13: Sun Oct 3, 2021 - Moscow – Departure day. After breakfast, transfer to Moscow airport for your return flight back home. (B)
